When I zoom extents I can't do anything my computer seems to freeze. I can zoom previous and regen and it works. There are likely items in "outer space" that may or may not display. If you select all with a crossing you may see some grips that will help find these items.
Use Layman to save the layer state if you want.
Turn on Thaw and unlock all layers.
Zoom extents to see the entire model.
List "All" remove with Crossing the entire model that you can see. Enter
If you "List" "Previous" you should see all the items that you listed.
You will have a list all the objects that are "NOT really there" in the "Previous" que.
Then you can "Erase" "Previous" to get rid if these items.
The items that are left are bad.
You might see some objects that were selected. These items are most likely not needed and are causing the problem. They are not needed because you can't see them anyway! delete the objects by

1. Dxf out and open the dxf and purge and audit
2. Or turn on unlock thaw all layers, Wblock out "ALL" open new file purg and audit.
*Unnn = anonymous blocks
*E### = anonymous non-uniformly scaled blocks
*X### = anonymous hatches
*D### = anonymous dimensions
*A### = anonymous groups
