max 2011 "put material to scene"
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?linkID=9241177&id=14993314&siteID=123112
Issue
There is an issue for users when working with the Compact Material Editor UI in 3ds Max 2011 and 3ds Max Design 2011. The issue may be apparent when using Put Material To Scene to update a material in the scene after you have edited the material.
The issue may be apparent as in the following workflow example:-
1. Create an object and assign a material to it using the Compact Material Editor.
2. Drag and drop the material sample slot to another slot to create a copy of the material in Compact Material Editor.Or,rename another material to the same as the one assigned to the object.
3. With the copied material selected, try to click the "Put Material to Scene" button.
Result: The Material does not update to scene, the ‘’Put Material to Scene’’ button is grayed out. Screenshot showing the issue is below:-
Solution
To workaround this issue, follow the steps below :-
1. Select an object that has the original material assigned to it. If there are many objects that share the material, then you need to select only one of them.
2. In Compact Material Editor, select the new material, then click the ‘’Assign Material To Selection’’ button to assign the new copied material to it. Choose ‘’Replace It’’ option when ‘’Assigning Material’’ dialog appears asking if you want to replace the material in scene.

Large Google map capture http://www.dq.winsila.com/tips-tricks/how-to-capture-large-maps-from-google-maps.html
http://www.dq.winsila.com/tips-tricks/how-to-capture-large-maps-from-google-maps.html
How to easily capture large maps from google maps
Google Maps is a great place to find vastly detailed street maps. But it is basically an online tool and Google doesn’t offer a way to save a map.
You could use the Print option to save the map as a pdf file but the limitation is that you would be able to print only what is visible on the screen. That means, if you want to cover a larger area, you would have to zoom out far, losing out on the details. And, if you zoom in to a comfortable level to view the details, you would lose out on the size of the map.
This tutorial will teach you how to capture a map as large as you want.
Tools Required:
* Firefox Browser.
* ScreenGrab extension for Firefox : It will capture what you can see in the window, the entire page, just a selection, a particular frame… basically it saves webpages as images – either to a file, or to the clipboard.
* Notepad.
Let’s Start:
1. Open up Firefox and install the Screengrab extension.
2. Go to http://maps.google.com/ and open a map of the location you want.
3. Zoom to a level that would be right for whatever purpose you are finally going to use the map for. Just don’t bother about the size of the map now. We will deal with that later.
4. On the top right hand side of the map you would find a link called…..’Link’. Click on it. In the little pop-up that appears, click on ‘Customize and preview embedded map’.
googlemap_link
5. A new pop-up window opens up where you can customize the size of the map. Select the ‘Custom’ option and enter the width and height (in pixels) that you want your final map to be. For example, you could change the values to 5000×4000. The preview map will change to reflect the new size.
googlemap_customsize
6. Once you are satisfied with the size of the map, copy the html code that appears below the preview map.
googlemap_htmlcode
7. Open Notepad and paste the above code. Name the file anything you want but make sure you save it with the extension .html. For example, you can call the file mymap.html.
(Tip: In the Save dialog box enter the name as “mymap.html” including the quotes to force Notepad to save the file with the extension .html and not .txt)
8. Open the html file you created in step 7 in Firefox. You would see your map displayed in the same size you selected in step 5. Of course, much of the map would probably be beyond the screen and you may have to scroll horizontally and vertically to view the hidden area.
9. Now that we have the map of our desired size, all we need to do now is to capture and save the map as an image file. Here is where the ScreenGrab extension for Firefox comes in handy. Assuming that you have already installed ScreenGrab, you would find the ScreenGrab icon at the bottom right corner of Firefox. Click on the icon and choose Save>Complete Page/Frame. After a moment, a save dialog appears. Save the image as a PNG or JPG file.
googlemap_screengrab
That’s it. Your large size map is ready.
The above trick can be most useful for grabbing maps for use with your GPS enabled mobile phones . Of course, you would need to calibrate the image file before use with the GPS device.

The HKLM\...\NoActiveDesktopChanges registry key above determines
whether or not the users of the machine have the ability to change
their active desktop configuration. There are a large number of
trojans and malware that change that registry entry to "1" in order to
prevent users from removing the displayed content within the active
desktop. You can also set this to 1 to prevent users from changing
their wallpaper, for instance. It is not necessarily an indication
that you are compromised, but by default user are allowed to change
their active desktop settings. The Malwarebytes program flagged the
registry entry because it is more often than not an indication that
malware may be present. If you are comfortable with the appearance
and functioning of your Windows desktop, and don't plan on allowing
other users to change the desktop settings, then leave the registry
entry set to 1, otherwise set it to zero or allow Malwarebytes to do
it for you.

Now close out of regedit and restart windows. With any luck, you should now be able to see your CD drives in windows once again.

Groups in Autocad
There are several methods for choosing a group, including selecting the group by name or selecting one of the members of the group.
You can select groups by name at the Select Objects prompt. If the PICKSTYLE system variable is set to 1 or 3 and you select any member of a selectable group, all group members that meet the selection criteria are selected. You can also turn group selection on and off by pressing CTRL+ H or SHIFT+CTRL+A.

DVD -R for Video DVD +R for data
Check to see which formats your DVD drive supports. A DVD-RW drive, for example, can't burn DVD+R/RW. Most newer optical drives are compatible with both, and can burn and read all formats. See if it can take DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, and/or DVD-RAM.
Figure out how much data you need to store on your DVD. If it is less than 4.7GB, you will be fine with any format. If you need more, dual-layer DVD+R/W or DVD-R/Ws, as well as double-sided DVD-RAM discs, hold as much as 9.4GB.
#
3
Decide if you need "plus," "minus/dash," or DVD-RAM formats. DVD-R/RW (dash or minus) are generally cheaper and more often compatible with DVD players, so they are better for video. DVD+R/RW (plus) are newer and are slightly more expensive; they burn and read faster, and are often better for data back-up. DVD-RAMs are often less compatible and are more expensive, but are best for backing up large amounts of data since they can be rewritten the most (see Step 4).

Decide if, or how often, you would want to rewrite the contents of the DVD. R is a write-once format; once you burn it, the data is on there permanently. RW can be rewritten approximately 1,000 times. DVD-RAM can be rewritten around 100,000 times.

Figure out how much data you need to store on your DVD. If it is less than 4.7GB, you will be fine with any format. If you need more, dual-layer DVD+R/W or DVD-R/Ws, as well as double-sided DVD-RAM discs, hold as much as 9.4GB.
